Let's thump Trump (he's a chump)

Hello again, passive aggressive blogger over here with an unquenchable need to scream about how the world is currently on its way to hell. If you weren't already aware, the Doomsday Clock (a measure of how close we are to a global catastrophe) has recently moved closer to midnight. In fact, it's the closest it has been to midnight since the Cuban Missile Crisis, which I needn't tell was a pretty shifty time in the world history with many people building bomb shelters, stocking up on food and, if you're British, consuming so much tea that your blood is replaced with Earl Grey with a splash of milk. Of course today we face a different kind of crisis. This crisis cannot be pinned to one event, but rather one person. A most despicable person who could single handedly cause the greatest global catastrophe that we have seen in centuries. A cheat, a liar, a horrendous villain: Robbie Rotten. I'm just kidding. It is of course the one and only Donald J Trump, current POTUS and certified dickhead. Even though he's only been in office for less than a month he has had an earth shattering effect on the American people and the world. He has implemented his contentious Muslim ban which, despite being delayed (for now), has already become very contentious. He has started plans for the Mexico wall which American taxpayers appear to paying for. And on top of all this he and his team are lying to everyone. The fake news extravaganza is actually far more terrifying than I think a lot of people are anticipating. What Trump is doing is very similar to George Orwell's 1984. If you haven't read it go read it now it a cracking book that will make you thoroughly depressed about the state of the world and will sound eerily similar. Fun times. But one crucial part to Big Brothers control over the people of 1984 is News Speak where words and news are changed in order to fit with what the Government wants to public to intake. This sounds far fetched. But it is happening right now. Donald Trump is pedalling the tabloids which are selling the stories that he wants them to say. On the other hand, he attacks every news outlet that defies him and claims that they are false news on Twitter and, whilst a lot of people don't believe him, he is a powerful man with powerful influence and people are very easily swayed by what powerful people tell them. One only has to look at Brexit and the promises that were made to the British people. Thanks frog-face (ie Nigel Farage).

The way we think is being manipulated, twisted and lied to. We are being attacked from all sides by different versions of the same news, and worse yet we all stay within our own bubbles of safety. The right wingers only listen to right wing media and discuss issues with their right wing friends, the liberals do the same. We are not listening to each other and that is how dictators rise: out of chaos.

How does one fight chaos? Simple. We actually listen to each other for once. We are all guilty of pedalling our own views and not branching out and considering other opinions. When one of my friends told me they had a slightly more conservative view on a contentious issue they asked me not to tell my friends, not because my friends are bad people, but because they wanted to fit in with the general consensus. In a way we are all guilty of this. We stick to our own views and block out everyone else's argument because you think you are right. And yes, in some cases you probably are right. But there will also be plenty of times when you are wrong and this applies to both sides of the political spectrum, both moderates and radicals. So we therefore need to see the situation from everyone's perspective. When the government raises taxes, maybe think about how your tax money is going towards someone else's healthcare who NEEDS it. When regulation on business is decreased think about the economic boom it could create, whilst yes also considering the climate effects of this. You will not find one single issue that does not have at the least two perfectly viable sides that need to be addressed. So do your research, and chances are you will sound smarter than a lot of stuff that Trump spouts from his lips.

We need to protest against fascism. There is no denying that Trump has gone beyond democracy on more than one occasion and stepped out of line and the only way of defending our liberties from tyrants is by making our voices heard. So go to the next protest, write a rat on facebook and make sure that you stay clued up with current affairs, you never know when you next might be lied to.
